Timings

The official timings of Bangalore Golf Course are from 7:00am to 7:00pm. It is open on all the days. The weekends are crowded as most golfers gather to play the game.

History

The Bangalore Golf Course dates back to the year 1876. The vast ground was previously used as the training and rifle range by the army. The first ever golf tournament here was played in 1878 between Bangalore Golf Club and Madras Gymkhana Club. The last redesigning of this Golf Course happened in 2002 by the skilled and master architect Phil Ryan. A 60 acre plot with 18 holes, Bangalore Golf Club has proudly positioned itself as one of the few golf courses in the country that uses recycled water for irrigation.

An interesting trivia is that Winston Churchill was a frequent visitor to the Bangalore Golf Course when he was just 22 years old. He is said to have left a debt of Rs.13/- at the Bangalore Golf Club. This amount in 1899 was written off by the Golf Club board as an irrecoverable sum.

Membership Fee

You have to be really lucky to get a membership in the elite Bangalore Golf Club. The task of getting a membership is quite challenging here as the waiting period is as long as a decade or more. This happens because the demand is much higher as compared to the vacancies they have. Even for the children of the existing members, the waiting is more than 14 years.
