In a city where shopping malls are as commonplace as mom-and-pop stores, RCity Mall in Ghatkopar stands out due to two factors: One, it isnt your quintessential, glassy, glossy mall (and has an old-school faade) and two, it looks like a three-phased mansion instead of a towering mall. The shopping mall, located between Ghatkopar and Vikhroli, sees a footfall of nearly 40,000 on busy days and is a prominent entertainment hub in the Eastern suburbs. So if youve heard the name and have been meaning to visit it, this article is just for you.
How to reach RCity Mall
Take bus numbers 386, 387 or 410 from the western end of the Ghatkopar station/Ghatkopar metro station.
Pro tip:DO NOT take your car to the mall for two reasons. For starters, reaching RCity Mall entirely by road can be a painful experience, thanks to multiple bottlenecks leading to it. Weve heard people coming from the Western Suburbs take the Hiranandani detour just to avoid the infamous Andheri-Kurla Road, so you know what we are talking about. Besides, the parking in the mall is often full, so you have to drive up and up till you can find a spot. Some buzzkill, believe you us!
Owned by the prominent construction group Runwal, RCity, Ghatkopar was thrown open to public in 2009. Spread over a million square feet, RCity has 3 floors and houses nearly 150 stores. The mall is also unique in the way that it is divided into three sections and shaped like a sprawling mansion. The mall also has a sister mall inR- Mall, which is located in Thane.
Shops maketh a mall and the sheer number and genre of shops cement RCitys stature as one of the citys biggest malls. Since listing all 150 of them will be a bit excessive (actually, its really excessive), we handpicked the ones most relevant to you.
Fashion accessories: If bags and belts give you a buzz, head to the stores of Lavie, Shaze, Esbeda, Caprese and Wildcraft.
Footwear: Got twinkle toes? RCity has got big names like Skechers, Clarks, Hush Puppies and Lords for you.
Ethnic wear: Traditional wear is an evergreen fashion choice and stores like Biba, Jashn and Manyavar help you pick the best.
Music: The outlets of Bose and Beats 99 are nothing short of candyland for music aficionados. And RCitys got them.
Groceries and household items: We would like to talk about Big Bazaar and Natures basket, but you know them better than we do its takeaway and couches for us, no?
Jewellery: Outlets of Gili, Tanshq and Orra inside the mall will put the sparkle back into your life.
Luxury brands: If you live by the motto Go Big or Go home, then before you go home check out the goodies at Marks & Spencer, Mac V, Shaze, Parcos, Scullers, The Body Shop, Calvin Klein, Kazo and United Colors of Benetton.
For us Indians, entertainment begins and ends with movies and RCity has got an enormous, nine-screen Inox to satiate our reel-life desires. RCity originally housed the flagship outlet Big Cinemas, which was taken over by Inox. But as long as the popcorns warm and the movie great, its all good!
Another prime attraction here is the F1 simulator car. The true-to-life prototype is a big hit with tweens and teens (and many young adults who basically remain kids) as it offers a virtual guide on what happens to an F1 driver during his Grand Prix races.
Talking about virtuality, how about heading to the 6D theater that will not only let you see and hear whats happening on screen, but take you right into the middle of the action? Sounds cool, right? For the not-so-easily-impressed, a trip to the Horror House is worth a shot. The place serves one purpose and one purpose only to spook the living daylights out of unsuspecting people.
If you want to hangout with your buddies, aint no place like Primetime in RCity Mall which has, arguably, the best bowling alley in the city. Also on offer here are 45 arcade games, a jaw-dropping archery zone, funky laser tag games and a Karaoke zone!
Located on the third floor, Kidzania is the flagship store in RCity Mall, Ghatkopar. The indoor theme park represents the scale model of a real city and functions like one. It serves to encourage kids aged between 4-14 to take up adult responsibilities, in order to unlock their creativity.
